Dieting to Goal doesn’t work for me

Bit of a rant on weight loss and what works for one person might not work for you. I am a classic yo yo dieter that has over 140 lbs to lose til I hit a “goal” weight. Its a scary, difficult but ultimately a life changing experience.

Exercise is 90% of weight loss, the other 10% is eating less than 2000 cal/day. It doesn’t matter what the food is. I like cheeseburgers for breakfast and lunch and pizza for dinner.

it’s already a big accomplishment not having to binge for the past few months!!! it’s okay to do it at your own pace. don’t compare. but obviously you’ve found your way of keep it up! =)

I know what you are frustrated about. I used to be a big yo-yo dieter before I had my last son, and I read this book called “You on a Diet”, and it helped me to really put things in perspective. It really doesn’t matter how fast you lose weight so long as you lose it, and as long as it stays off. It has taken me a total of 2 years to lose the first 75lbs, and I have 21 more to go. It gets tedious after a while especially when I only lose 1 lb a month sometimes, and then drop 5 lbs for no reason.

Glad you aren’t ashamed ~ maintaining is good. I like the way you think!

I totally there with you on the time thing. I keep thinking if I can’t lose the 400+lbs I need to overnight there is no point. I have to remind myself I can do this over time. Good luck!

That’s great you are losing weight. Finding the right balance is the key.

Thank you for making this video Colleen! I am right there with you 100%!! It’s not about how long it takes us… because it IS a lifestyle change :) You’re doing wonderful and you are such an inspiration!!!

thank you thank you THANK you for making this video. Ive been a little disappointed in myself and wondering what i was doing wrong and why it seemed i was working so hard and not closer to goal by now. But now i realize that maintaining and staying on track is just as important and its okay to get there at your bodies own pace. Im not someone who looses five pounds a week. Ill deal with that. Its not just the “prize” of reaching goal but the ride getting there, right?

“Think of the accomplishments.” That’s how I get by week by week. If I don’t make my goal, I see how my life was changed and go from there. Or if I need to change something. Hehe.

I love that idea!! Maintaing while we loose weight. There is no end to this healthy habit.. it will continue with us for the rest of our lifes. Healthiness! :D

excellent video!! i’m going through the same thing…realizing that dieting isn’t for me. all it does is backfire and i end up binging and gaining weight. the exact opposite of what i wanted lol. just maintaining a healthy lifestyle is all we need.

Just wondering…are you Irish or English?

You got it right this time! Extreme dieting is not sustainable and it makes you a great yo-yo dieter. Being able to eat out sometimes and being able to have a treat here or there without the all-or-nothing mentality is the key. The hardest thing is to staying focused and not getting frustrated when you maintain and when you have small loss… but doing it for months/years … it brings you to a heatlhy point in life where you aren’t deprived and disappointed but rather proud of what you’ve done.

hello there! Glad to see you back. Don’t be too hard on yourself…

  19. Comment by rockybarragan — April 13, 2010 @ 2:21 am

i agree. you can’t rush it. just try and eat “healthier” don’t deprive and it’ll happen. even though i was on ww i never put too much stress on how much i lost each week…i just kept going and never stopped. that’s the key….to just keep going. i’m not going anywhere…why should i be in a rush?

    great vid!

i totally relate…i just realized the same thing, ive only lost 20 lbs in 8 months,i know now to only weigh myself once a month,to not deprive myself or push my body too hard and to definately not count calories…thats whats been working for me this month even if its not a big loss.

-gives standing ovation- YOU’VE GOT IT!!! Even though we say our goal is to lose weight- its more about working on us and changing our lives and our habits…then losing weight becomes a by-product and a great perk to the change in lifestyle. You’re doing awesome and I have missed you!!

I know EXACTLY what you are talking about. It has taken me decades to tweak the way I do things regarding weight loss and fitness. I can’t join challenges that want you to set pound goals because that doesn’t work for me. I see vids suggesting foods that might be within a calorie range but contain stuff my body reacts to. We are ALL different. We all have to find our own path. This is fine and dandy! I think this video make a whole lot of sense! Good luck! :-)
