Keeping a Diet Journal Helps You Lose Weight
When you are dieting or attempting a weight loss routine, you need all the help and support we can get. Your friends and family, as well as your diet groups are excellent sources for support. Having those things to support you is great, but what can you do to support yourself and keep yourself on track to lose weight?
Keep track of your progress. It’s very easy to break your diet if you don’t monitor what you eat during the day, because you will mindlessly eat without thinking about it, and forget about it later. Getting yourself a little journal that you write down what you’ve eaten, the calories you’ve eaten, and what type of workout you’ve done for the day is a great way to keep track. This is typically called a Diet Diary, or Diet Journal. When you keep track of the calories, you will make sure that you are not taking in more calories per day than you are wanting to on your diet plan. Also tracking your workout will show you the areas that you’ve improved in, and what area you need to keep working on. You can use this journal for motivation, to see how far you have come, and see yourself getting closer and closer to your goals. Keeping your weight loss and work out journal gives you a way to see and appreciate your progress on a daily basis. Making a habit of journaling will also keep you on track with your weight loss program.
When you first start your journal, it may seem tough to keep track of everything you eat, and everything you do in the gym. As tough as it is short term, it will help you stay focused in the long run. When you have a cookie here or there you may not feel like your cheating, but when you write it all down, you see exactly what you take in and it keeps you honest with yourself. You can also journal a few notes about how you are feeling for the day, or if maybe you did something different in your daily routine that made you feel better or worse. Over time, your journal tells your weight loss story, and you will be amazed as you look back over it and see the progress you have made. Many times people who are overweight are emotional eaters, and being able to express yourself in a journal can often help keep your emotional cravings in check. Your journal can be a great tool to help you get to your weight loss goals!
